Welcome to Ray’s Substack.

The motto here is “science fiction you can enjoy.” I write upbeat, (usually) space opera. Think Starship Troopers, hijacked by Monty Python. Or, for the more old-fashioned of us, light space opera staged by Gilbert & Sullivan, while bankrolled and bullied by Flo Ziegfeld. If my fiction does wander into serious, expect frequent interruptions of farce until sanity is restored.

My intentions are to produce a newsletter weekly, populated with snippets from my currently available novels and fiction, as well as glimpses of upcoming work. Interleaved with that will be essays about writing, and whatever else induces me to start scribbling. If you’re looking for politics or opinion, please look elsewhere. There’s already plenty of that sloshing about, and arguing people into seeing things my way isn’t a priority. Besides, people who disagree with me have money to spend on my books too. Not that I plan on ever charging for access to this.

My published books and stories are listed below. If you like the looks of them, subscribe and you’ll get more of that.
